Office Chic No. 1: The Perfect Blazer

One of my must haves for the basic wardrobe essentials for any office environment is the perfect blazer.   A versatile, well-made blazer is an easy way to dress up any outfit and create a more polished look.  Blazers are always available in a variety of styles, colors and fabrics and they can be used through out the year.  As I’ve mentioned before, I wear a lot of suits to work, but there are some days when I don’t want to have the same look as my colleagues.  For an alternative look, I like to break up the suit and create new outfits.  One of my favorite options is pairing a bold, colorful blazer with a pair of suiting pants or a skirt.  And when I can’t think of anything to wear, I always grab a blazer to change the look of my outfit.  A perfect blazer can take you from day to night if it’s paired with the right accessories like a statement necklace or a colorful scarf.  I also think that every wardrobe should have a basic black blazer.  I recommend finding a classic style that flatters your shape. A black blazer can take you anywhere you want to go and it will never go out of style.   So ladies, go out and find a well-tailored blazer for the perfect office chic look.  Do you have a favorite blazer in your closet?  Let me know.

Office Chic – The Basic Work Wardrobe

Hi everyone!  So I know that it was a few weeks ago that I mentioned this new series, but I’m finally ready to get things started.  Since I work in a conservative office, staying current with the latest trends is just impractical. Buying new clothes to update my wardrobe each season costs lots of money and time.  The best way to keep your wardrobe current is to invest in a few basics as a foundation and add accessories and smaller trendy pieces.

I wanted to start off the What to Wear to Work series with my take on several pieces that would work perfectly for most office environments.  Dressing for the office does not have to be boring, expensive or even complicated.  I’ve narrowed these pieces down to 7 basic garments that can be mixed and matched with each other for an office chic look.  Over the next several weeks, I’ll explore each of these basics, which will include the following:  Cardigans, Blouses, Blazers, Pants, Pencil Skirts, Black Dresses and a High Heeled Shoe.

Again, if there is any topic that you want to talk about or if you have any questions about office appropriate clothing, please contact me at moodygirlinstyle@yahoo.com.

What to Wear to Work

I have been thinking about adding another feature to my blog for some time now, but I just never acted on it.  After talking to some family members and some friends, they encouraged me to go forward with this new feature.  I’ve enjoyed my blog so much over the past year and a half, but I’ve always felt like something has been missing.  I truly want to contribute to the fashion blogging community in some way and I feel that this series will do just that. I wanted to create a post that will address the needs of other working women like me.  As much as I love checking out my favorite New York City and Los Angeles based bloggers, their extremely well put together pattern mixing and high-end designer fashions just doesn’t work for my everyday look.  During the week I struggle each morning and ask myself the same post-alarm question each morning: "What am I going to wear to work today?" For me when I dress for the office, I have to consider a number of things:  is this look appropriate; do I look professional; is my skirt too short, is this feminine; is this look distracting.  I’ve mentioned before in previous posts that I work in a pretty conservative job that requires me to wear suits to work.  For at least three days out of the week, I’m usually wearing a suit and the other two days, I’m dressed in business casual attire.  I can wear jeans some Fridays, as long as I’m not in a meeting or training.

So everyone, if there is any topic that you want to talk about or if you have any questions about fashionable office clothing, please contact me at moodygirlinstyle@yahoo.com.  I can’t wait to get started!
