Moody Girl Eats: A Go-To Green Drink

I’ve been drinking this amazing green drink ever since I saw the actress/co-founder of the Honest Company, Jessica Alba, on a variety of talk shows several months ago.  On the talk shows, Jessica Alba revealed her secrets to her hot new body after giving birth to her baby in her new book, The Honest Life.  One secret that she revealed in her book is that she sips on this green drink throughout the day to help keep her feel full.  So, she didn't feel the need to snack as often throughout the day. I never had a chance to buy her book to get the exact measurements of the drink, but the ingredients below is what I was able to gather based on her various television appearances.  When I heard Jessica list out all of the ingredients together I knew it was going to be pretty amazing. I made a couple of changes to the recipe based on my tastes and I wanted to share it here with you all.  Let me know what you think about this drink if you have a chance to try it.  Do any of you have a favorite smoothie or juice that you like to mix up on a regular basis?  Let me know all about it in the comments.

Go-To Green Drink
[Adapted from The Honest Life, by Jessica Alba]

Ingredients:

2 stalks of celery, chopped
1 whole cucumber, skin on, chopped
2 apples, chopped (either a golden delicious or granny smith)
2 big handfuls of kale (2-3 large leaves)
1 whole lemon (juiced)
1 teaspoon of a peeled fresh ginger (you can add more to taste)
2 tablespoons of MILA chia seeds (OPTIONAL - I added this ingredient for extra nutrients).
3-4 cubes of honeydew melon or watermelon for sweetness.  Or you can also use a pinch of stevia or a tablespoon of honey.  (I added the honey to this recipe because I personally think it tastes great with it).
5-7 ice cubes
Water

Directions:

Makes about 2 servings.

Place all ingredients in a blender and add just enough water to get it going. Blend until smooth and sweeten the drink to taste. Pour the drink in a glass and sip it right away with a straw and Enjoy!

Bye-Bye Google Reader!

Hiya everyone! I'm sure that by now most of you heard the news that Google Reader will no longer be available starting July 1st!  If you’re like me you may still rely on RSS feeds to organize your favorite blogs.  Lucky for us there are several alternatives out there to help us during this transition. Although setting up a new feed can be a pain, Google has created an easy way to transfer the Reader data.  They suggest using Google Takeout to export xml files that should have subscription information from Google Reader. However, some of the alternative platforms have their own special buttons or directions on how to import the data, so follow their instructions.

Here is a quick list of some of the best alternatives to Google Reader:

1. Feedly is a Google Chrome app that is also available on mobile devices. The service is free and also has instructions on how to transfer data from Google Reader.  At this time, I’ve decided to go with Feedly for now.  It’s pretty easy to use and the data was transferred effortlessly.
2. Netvibes is a service has been around for about as long as Google Reader. Its basic service is free, and users can pay more for features like analytics, alerts and sentiment.
3. Newsblur is a straightforward RSS reader that has an easy button to add RSS feeds or to import data from Google Reader.
4. Bloglovin' is also great alternative to read your daily blogs and there is a button to import your entire Google Reader feeds
5. The Old Reader is a perfect look-a-like replacement for Google Reader.  I haven’t checked it out yet, but it seems like a great alternative.

Have you already made the change to a new platform?  If so, which platform are you using?  Let me know in the comments.  Whatever platform you decide to use, I hope that you will continue to follow Moody Girl In Style.

Fresh Picks to Follow – Summer Sunnies

It’s been raining cats and dogs here in Florida lately, so I haven’t had the need for sunglasses for about a week.  But we all know that this is only temporary.  Since I’ve moved back to Florida, I’ve owned several pairs of sunglasses to get me through each year. I have a couple pairs of designer sunglasses (bought on a deep discount) that I don’t wear all the time, because I’m afraid that I’ll either lose them or break them.  And I definitely don’t run in them.  For my run days, I grab a pair of my cheap glasses or wear a sun visor instead.

I’ve always thought about investing in a really nice pair of designer sunglasses, but then I think to myself is it really worth the price? I recently read an article that suggested that they are not.  For starters, did you know that most sunglasses are made by the same company?  One company, Italian manufacturer Luxottica, makes some all of the top brands like Burberry, Chanel, Polo Ralph Lauren, Tory Burch and Donna Karan.  Luxottica is one of the biggest consumer companies that many consumers have never heard of before.  Another thing that I learned is that in many cases, the same company is also selling you the glasses. Luxottica also owns LensCrafters, Pearle Vision and Sunglass Hut. Who knew right?  Check out this article here for more information about sunglasses.

Anyways, for this week’s Fresh Picks to Follow, here are my top 10 sunnies that I’ve been eyeing lately.  It’s a mix of high-end designer brands and low end designer knock offs.  Do any of you have a pair of sunnies that you can’t live without?  What’s your favorite pair? Do you splurge or try to save money when it comes to sunglasses?  Let me know in the comments.

Today, I’m linking up with AV’s Friday's Fancies over on Long Distance Loving.  If you like what you see here, check AV’s blog for more sunglasses ideas.
