OOTD: Once & Always

Here’s another OOTD that I forgot to post from the weekend.  I paired my Anthropologie Once & Always Tee with an old black skirt from J. Crew.  I wish I added something else to this outfit to jazz it up.   However, the weather has been really warm here, so that’s really all of the pieces I could have worn.  I lacked inspiration with this outfit…this isn't my favorite, but I love this shirt.

Shirt: Anthropologie Once & Always Tee
Necklace: Coach Resort Optic Art C Chain Necklace
Skirt: J.Crew A-Line Skirt (really old)

OOTD: Eastpointe Garden

Hiya ladies….I’ve been behind with posting my OOTDs, so here is one that I took last week.  The Eastpointe Garden Top is very versatile to wear with jeans on a casual day or dressed up with a pencil skirt and a cardigan like I did here with the Pulling It Together Sweater.  I also added a skinny belt around my waist to add some shape since the top is loose fitting.  I’m really glad that I was able to get this top before it sold out.  If you missed out, it looks like you are in luck.  It looks like Anthropologie brought this top back in new colors and made by a different designer.  The top is now called the Loosened Shelby Blouse. Check it out and let me know what you think.

miscellany monday

happy monday everyone – i’ve added my random ramblings to carissa’s miscellany monday party!  check out carissa’s blog here and join in on the fun.

{one} running.  i mentioned last week that i was going to run in a 5k last thursday.  the race was great, but it was extremely sunny and humid.  the weather threw me for a loop because it was a lot warmer than i expected since the race began at 6:30pm.  during the race, i felt like i was dying from heat exhaustion.  there was also only one station to get water, which was like torture.  anyways, despite the setback of the extremely warm weather, my time for this race was 30:57 and i finished 289 out of 1668 women runners.  overall there were 1328 male finishers, 1668 female finishers and 2996 total finishers. i’m pretty pleased with myself.  i’m finally on a role now with running races and training for races.  i already signed up for another 5k race scheduled for this saturday morning.  this race is a women’s only race, which should be an interesting change of pace.   i’ll tell you all about it later.

{two} drop 10 challenge.  last night i signed up for self magazine’s drop 10 challenge.  the website has great tips on losing weight and how to get you to slim down your body.  the website is complete with daily menus, workout plans, and a food and workout log to track your progress.  check it out if you’re like me and you just want to get bathing suit ready for the summer.  oh and another great perk is that enrolling in the challenge makes you eligible for a dream vacation in the bahamas.  good luck.

Fresh Picks to Follow: Eco-Friendly Fashion

Happy Earth Day everyone!  I hope that you all have having a great day so far.  I started my holiday weekend a little early by traveling yesterday to see my BF in Savannah.  Lucky for me my office was closed today in observance of Good Friday, so I didn’t have to use too much leave time.

In honor of Earth Day, today’s Fresh Pick to Follow is all about eco-friendly clothing.  I wanted to highlight designers that are committed to sustainable practices that are considerate to the planet.  These designers use organic, sustainable, natural or recycled fabrics only.  The textile processing uses low impact dyes, and low impact washing and printing techniques, leaving green fabrics with a minimal environmental footprint. According to Eco Fashion World, “eco-fashion is a holistic concept that refers to all fashion products that have been created in such a way as to contribute to a healthier and more equal world.”  There are so many designers and companies that dedicate their practices to producing eco-friendly fashions, that it’s impossible to highlight all of them.  Check out this guide from Eco Fashion World that will direct you to a list of designers, brands and stores that sell eco-friendly fashion.

Here are my top 10 eco-friendly fashions.  Let me know what you think.  Did you do any specific in honor of Earth Day?  Let me know what you did.  If you need some Earth Day ideas, check out my post here for a quick list so that you can get started today.

April Wish List – Top 3

Here are my top 3 items for the month of April from Anthropologie.  I know that the month is almost over, but I wanted to post them anyway.   As I mentioned previously, I won’t be making any purchases until Easter….and that’s just around the corner.   Anthro has some really great pieces in the store right now.  It was really tough limiting myself to 3 items, but I did it. Here are my top 3 items for the month of April that I can’t live without.  I definitely plan on getting one of these items once my shopping ban is over.  What are your must have items this month?  Let me know!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

April 22, 2011 is National Earth Day.  This year, Earth Day's theme is themed after A Billion Acts of Green.  The Earth Day Network is asking people to help the organization reach their goal of one billion acts of green.  They are asking you to contribute today by showing your commitment to the Earth by sharing an act of green.  So if you are looking to save the planet or if you are just getting started, here are several fun and creative ways to give back to Mother Earth.

  1. Start a Garden. You can start a garden just about anywhere, like a small square patch in the backyard or a flowerpot on a balcony or windowsill. I just started my garden a few weeks ago and I planted a few different herbs and vegetables.  What’s in my garden?  I planted basil, green onions, parsley, chives, cucumbers and green peppers and I’m slowly watching them grow.   Here is a picture of my little home garden.  I’m very excited and I can’t wait to cook with some of these herbs.
  1. Plant a Tree.  One great way to start planting trees is becoming a member of the Arbor Day Foundation.  Check out the website here for more information.  As a thank you gift for your membership, you can get 10 free trees to plan in your yard or send to someone else as a gift.
  1. Recycle Craft Project. There are tons of craft projects for Earth Day, but this one from Anthropologie looks fun.  Anthropologie is hosting cork crafting and potting classes for adults and children.  Check here to find a workshop at a local Anthropologie.  Also, starting April 22nd, Anthropologie will donate ten cents to charity each time you go bag-free.  The donations will be divided equally among EarthCorps and The Chez Paniss Foundation’s Edible Schoolyard.
  1. Reusable Grocery Bag.  Help the environment by using a canvas tote bag at the grocery store instead of plastic bags.
  1. Energy Light Bulbs.  If you want to save money on your energy costs every month, buying new light bulbs is probably the easiest way.  I know that purchasing energy efficient light bulbs are a little more expensive than your average light bulb, but it’s worth it in the long run.  If every household in the U.S. replaced one light bulb with a Compact Fluorescent Light Bulb (CFL), it would prevent enough pollution to equal removing one million cars from the road.  CFLs last about eight times as long as incandescent bulbs. They only need to be replaced every five to six years.  CFLs use ¼ the energy of an incandescent light bulb.
  1. Turn Off the Lights.  Turn off the lights when they are not in use.  I know my co-workers in my office must think that I’m crazy, because I turn off the lights in the office all of the time. It drives me nuts when people leave the office for the day, and the lights are still on.  I think that it’s really it important to conserve electricity - think how much money you can save.
  1. Recycle.  You can recycle and/or reuse many items such as batteries, cell phones, computers and of course paper to name a few.  I found a great article from Real Simple magazine titled “How to Recycle Anything.”  It’s an A-to-Z guide of what can be tossed into which recycle bin – check it out here.

happy monday everyone – i’ve added my random ramblings to carissa’s miscellany monday party!  check out carissa’s blog here and join in on the fun.

{one} royal wedding.  i just got finished watching barbara walters 20/20 special - the royal wedding: a modern fairytale and i’m getting excited about the wedding.  i don’t know about you, but i’m looking forward to seeing all of the pomp and circumstance that will accompany this event….the arrival at westminister abbey, the dress, the service and the music.  the do you plan on waking up to watch the wedding?  i plan on making sure i to bed pretty early so i can wake up around 4am to watch it all.  check out the website here for the official information regarding the royal wedding.  the wedding date is scheduled on april 29, 2011.

{two} running.  i’m running another 5k on thursday evening and i can’t wait.  i’m extremely happy that the race is in the evening, so it shouldn’t be so hot outside.  i hope that i can bring my time down just a little.  i usually run a 10 minute mile, but i would like to shave off at least 5 minutes.

OOTD: Orange Field Scout

I really enjoy reading fashion blogs, and I follow several of them on a daily basis. One of my favorites is You, Me and Anthropologie because I think that Sara and I have similar styles.  She puts together these amazing outfits that are classic, elegant and sometimes even whimsical and her blog has the best pictures! My outfit today was inspired by Sara (here).  I had this orange skirt for a little while, but last winter I was desperate to find the blouse.  I was super happy that I was able to do with the help of Roxy’s Effortless Anthropologie Weekend In-Store Community post.  Thanks Sara for inspiring me with yet another way to wear my Anthropologie clothing:

Shirt: Anthropologie Daring Dart Blouse
Tank: Banana Republic Support Cami
Skirt: Anthropologie Field Scout Skirt
Belt: Anthropologie Looping Lanes Belt
Shoes: Ann Taylor Dark Brown Pumps (really old)
Necklace: Coach Resort Optic Art C Chain Necklace

I love this Coach necklace that I’m wearing. I bought it last year at an amazing discount.  There are a handful of great jewelry pieces over at Coach that I’m loving right now like the Kristin Double Strand Strand Charm Necklace, Miranda Puffed Heart Pendant Necklace, and Miranda Pave Op Art Disc Earrings.  Check out the Coach’s website here for more jewelry pieces.

Fresh Picks to Follow: ’70s Style Denim

Happy Saturday everyone…I hope that you all are having a great weekend so far.  I’m sorry that I didn’t have a chance to post this yesterday, but I was super busy.  I decided to write about high-waisted flare jeans, because I read in a recent magazine that these jeans were making a come back this spring and I wasn’t sure how I feel about them.  I’ve never actually tried on a pair, but I plan to do it soon.  I think these jeans have the potential to look great on any body type, but the fit is very tricky.  In order to find the perfect pair, you have to be diligent in trying on multiple jeans and you have to know how to style and wear them correctly.  “The new fit of the season for women’s denim is the wide leg high-waisted flare,” says Patrick Robinson, the Gap's EVP of design. Mr. Robinson further stated that “this style is a modern interpretation of ’70s influence which is a key theme for the spring season. To enhance the sophistication of the look, you can pair it with a fitted button down blouse or a light washed denim shirt.”

Many designers sent ’70s-inspired fashions down their spring runways, so it shouldn’t be hard to find these high-waisted, flared and wide-leg pants in retail stores.  Specifically, this disco era trend were included in collections by Derek Lam, Diane Von Furstenberg and Jason Wu to name a few.  Here are my top 10 picks for this Friday’s Fresh Picks to Follow.

Do you already own a pair of high-waisted flare jeans or do you plan to purchase a pair?  I’d love to know what you think.

OOTD: My Favorite Backlight

I forgot to post this picture from this past weekend.  As I mentioned in my previous post, I went to a baby shower and birthday dinner on Saturday and I wore this outfit.    I bought this top last fall, but I didn’t have a chance to wear it until now since the weather has changed.  I’m so glad that I was able to buy it on sale.  I remember that as soon as it went on sale, I called my local Anthro store at 8:00am and asked the SA to put it on hold for me.  When the SA told me it was the last one in my size, I was super excited that I decided to call.  I just hoped that it would still be there when I got off work.  And obviously it was there.  On a side note, aren’t the Anthro sales associates the best? The sales associates at my local Anthro are always so cheerful and helpful.  They address me by my name, which may say a lot about how much I shop there; and I always feel like it’s a pleasure to shop in any Anthro store.

miscellany monday

busy, busy, busy.  this has been my theme phrase for the past several days.  this past week was super busy for me and it looks like this week is going to be about the same.  here is a recap of my weekend events.

{one - thursday} fashion show.  i went to my first professional fashion show last thursday called runway to dignity 2011.  and it was fabulous.  my boss had 2 tickets to the event, but was unable to attend.  so, she asked me and one of my co-workers if we would like to go in her place.  i couldn’t say yes fast enough.  we left work a little early to head to jacksonville for the event.   the fashion show took place outside under the stars with a clear tent overlooking the st. johns river.  it was beautiful.  neiman marcus of orlando provided the clothing for the runway to dignity 2011 fashion show to benefit dignity u wear. the upscale retailer featured spring fashions by some of today’s most notable designers, including escada, dolce gabbana, and roberto cavalli.

{two - friday} jazz’d.  after work on friday, i went to savannah, ga to visit my bf and to attend a baby shower for one of my former classmates.  the bf and i went to jazz’d tapas bar located on 52 barnard st. in savannah, ga.  i’ve gone to jazz’d for drinks only, but never for the tapas.  finally, i had to opportunity to eat some of the restaurant’s amazing tapas for the first time and boy were they delicious.  my three favorites were the southern crab cakes, coconut shrimp and shrimp fritters.  if you are ever in savannah, check out jazz’d (here).

{three - saturday} baby shower and birthday party.  i have a huge problem.  sometimes i double book myself with in the same day (i’ve also been known to triple book myself).  for example, on saturday i had a baby shower to attend at 3pm and a birthday dinner for one of my best friends in jacksonville, fl at 6pm.  crazy…i know.  the cities are 2 hours apart, so naturally i thought i shouldn’t have a problem…right? i thought that i could make both of these events.  of course there was a problem – a huge problem.  my friend’s shower got pushed back and was scheduled to start at 4:30pm; however, my friend never showed up because she had to take her husband to the emergency room.  so the shower never happened.  i was a little frustrated because my day was pushed back a couple of hours and i thought i was super late for the dinner.  however, luckily for me by the time i arrived in Jacksonville, my friends were just being served their food.

{four - sunday} stampin’ up.  have you heard about stampin’ up?  i posted about this crafting hobby a few weeks ago after i attended a friend’s party.  somehow during this party,  i was talked into hosting my own party, so i hosted it on sunday.  i ran around like a chicken with my head cut off yesterday morning trying to pick up food to make baked ziti for lunch.  in addition to cooking the lunch, i also had to clean my apartment.  yikes…I was exhausted by the end of the day.  i had 7 ladies come over for lunch and the stampin’ up fun.  we made two lovely cards that i’m sure to use both of them within the next couple of months.  check out the website for more information about stampin’ up (here).

{five - monday} taxes. have you filed you taxes yet?  i just e-filed mine a few hours ago.  what a way to wait until the last minute – eh?  i always seem to do that.  don’t forget to file your income taxes – the deadline this year it april 18th.

i’ve added my random ramblings to carissa’s miscellany monday party!  check out carissa’s blog here and join in on the fun.
