Mood to Shop: Fourth of July Style Inspiration

Happy Saturday, sweet friends! Can you believe that Fourth of July is next week? June flew by so fast that I almost forgot that we have a major holiday coming up.  I haven't even thought about my plans for the day yet let alone my outfit ideas. For the past couple of years, my family would get together for a backyard barbecue, a swim in the pool and then all head out to watch the fireworks.  However this year is going to be a little different since the holiday falls on a Thursday and most of us have to work the next day.  We're still trying to figure out the actual plans, but in the meantime I'm planning out a few different outfits choices for any scenario.  I want to make sure I look patriotic and festive, but not too over the top.  So I figured that I would put together some Fourth of July fashion ideas for myself and wanted to share it with you all in case you also needed some help.  And the best part is that all of these picks are under $50!  Check them out below and let me know what you plan to wear on the Fourth of July!

Race Recap: 4th of July 5k Run

On the morning of July 4th, I ran in a 5k race at 7:30am.  I wasn’t sure I was going to run until I was jolted by my alarm at the crack of dawn.  I told myself that if I were able to wake up at 6:00am, then I’d sign up for the race at the site.  I know - 6:00am sounds brutal right?  But, I’m glad I woke up and pushed myself to go to the race.  One of the reasons that I wanted to run this particular race was to help me get back into my running groove.  I’m not sure if you all have noticed, but I haven’t been running as often as I did last year.  At first, I was sure why it happened.  I truly enjoy running and I particularly love running in races, but I hadn’t ran consistently since April 2012.   The only thing that I could think of that changed dramatically since last year is my workload at my job.  My workload pretty much doubled in April and I have been working some ridiculously long hours.  As a result, my drive and motivation to go out for a run or even go to the gym for a workout had vanished.  Over the past few months, I tried to run here and there; however, it wasn’t enough to get me back into a routine, until I watched some of the U.S. Olympic trials for the track and field division at the end of June 2012.  Watching serious athletes battle it out for their ticket to London was just the boost that I needed to get started again.

I had to be reminded about my love for running and really think about why I run.  I wanted to share some of my reasons with you all here on my blog.  Why do I run?  I run because I can and I really do think that it’s fun. I know the fun part may sound so cliché, but it’s true.  I also run because it’s simple and you don’t need to have any equipment to get started.  Except for a good pair of running sneakers and some water in case you get thirsty, but nothing excessive.  Another reason that I run is because it’s my little escape from my everyday woes.  I have so much time to think about my life without being interrupted.  I usually run in the evenings after work, so I’m able to recap the day, prepare for the following day and even meditate.   I tend to get a lot accomplished in my head during my mini excursions.

After watching the Olympic hopefuls, I’ve been lacing up and hitting the pavement or treadmill on regular basis.  I'm pretty sure that I got my running groove back.   Anyways, here are my stats for the race: there were 1030 total race finishers - 540 females and 490 males.  I finished the race in 31:23 minutes.  Do any of you run or participate in a sport that you are passionate about?  How do you all stay motivated to keep going?  I’d love to hear all about it.
xoxo Natasha

Moody Style: Baby, You’re a Firework!

I hope that you all had a safe and Happy 4th of July yesterday.  I had a pretty spectacular day with some very special friends.  My day started off with a 5k race at 7:30 in the morning – I’ll post a race recap later in another post.  After a quick breakfast, I headed to the mall for a quick visit to Anthropologie.  I couldn’t miss out checking out the extra 25% off sale. I plan to post my shopping bag of some of the goodies that I found.   Later in the afternoon, I went to a barbeque for a few hours and I ate a ton of food.  In the evening, I planned to attend a pool party to get a little sun, swim and then watch the fireworks.  Unfortunately, it started pouring rain around 6:00pm and it continued after 9:00pm.  So needless to say, I didn’t get to swim, but the rain stopped just in time for a beautiful firework show.   How did you spend your 4th of July?  Let me know!

Fresh Picks to Follow – Stars and Stripes

When I was younger, I remember every year when my family and I gathered together to celebrate the 4th of July.  We watched local parades, caught some rays at the beach or at a pool, ate delicious barbeque and watched dazzling fireworks at a park or downtown by a river.  As I get older, I always go back to my childhood memories.  These days, I’m lucky if I get to a barbeque or the beach.  And I haven’t been to a parade in several years.  How are you all spending your 4th of July holiday this year? I don’t have any plans yet, but I’ll be sure to let you know.  In any event, whatever you decide to do, you’ll want your outfit to be the perfect blend of style, stars and stripes.  If you can’t think of anything to wear, you can’t go wrong with anything red, white or blue or anything with the American flag on it.  I’ve also pulled together a list of 4th of July inspired clothing and accessories that will make you feel proud to be an American.  For this week’s Fresh Pick to Follow, here are my top 10 red, white and blue pieces that you can wear to express your pride and patriotism.
