Fresh Picks to Follow – Flat Footed

Some of you already know that I love a high-heeled shoe and I wear them to work almost everyday.  The only thing that bothers me about my heels is that I can’t stand to wear them during my commute to the office.  I typically wear flats or flip-flops while I walk 4 long blocks to my office.  As soon as I get into my office, I change into my heels.  This routine started when I when I lived in Washington, DC.  I realized that I couldn’t wear my heels during my morning and evening commutes to work.  I took either walked from home or took a bus to the metro and then walked to work.  I was ruining more heels than I care to remember.  I couldn’t afford to get my heels fixed or continue to buy replacement heels.  I started out wearing sneakers for a few days, but I thought it looked weird with my skirt suits and dresses.  Flats turned out to be the perfect alternative to my sneakers and in the long run I started to preserve the life of my heels.

Needless to say, I’m all about flats right now.  I own a several pairs and I would like to some more – mostly ones in bright bold colors. Every time I go shopping I always check out the designs of ballerina flats.  And even though I’m not supposed to be shopping right now, I picked out my favorites for the season. Here are my top 10 ballerina flats for this week’s Fresh Picks to Follow.  Do any of you wear flats during your commute?  What are your favorite flats?  Let me know!

Moody Style: A Birthday Surprise

I celebrated my birthday last Friday night at a dinner with my family and friends. My actual birthday was on Saturday, February 11th.  My mom, step-dad and one of my sisters came into town for the dinner along with one of my really good friends from Chicago.  I also had a handful of my friends from high school and a few friends from work come out to the dinner.  We all had a fabulous time.  We went to one of my favorite local Thai restaurants again. If you’ve followed along on my blog over the past year, you may know that I went to a Thai restaurant for my birthday last year.  I’m so not original.  I know the family that owns the restaurant, so it’s easy to work with them.  As an added birthday dinner, my sister and I were able to get free passes to attend a small concert featuring Sean Paul.  I never had a chance to see him perform before, so it was a nice surprise. I took so many pictures and video of the concert and I lost my voice a little from singing so loudly.  I had a pretty awesome birthday.

Moody Style: It’s a Shirr Thing

I just got back home from my fourth sewing class and I’m having a blast.  I’m still amazed with how much work goes into each item of clothing.  My first project we worked on was a tote bag that I plan to finish up this weekend.  I just have to add the straps and then I’ll share my creation with all of you.  It’s not a great tote bag, but I’m proud that I made it.  In tonight’s class, we class moved on to our second project – an apron.  We started cutting out our patterns for the apron of our choice.  I’m pretty excited about this project because I’ve always tempted to pick up an apron from Anthropologie when they go on sale.  However, I never pulled the trigger because I could always find other things to buy instead.  Anyways, I found a fabulous vibrant blue and yellow floral fabric for my apron and I can’t wait to share it with you all.  My pattern is pretty simple, but it does require shirring the skirt.  That part may be a little tricky.  I guess we’ll see soon enough.  Do any of you know how to sew? Have you made anything recently?
