Fresh Picks to Follow – Critter Sweaters

When J. Crew came out with the French Hen Sweater earlier this year, I have to admit, I wasn’t the biggest fan.  I was surprised how insanely popular the chicken got and how quickly it sold out.   After a few weeks, the sweater started to grow on me a little bit.  I started to see it’s styling possibilities and tons of bloggers were also testing it out.  As cute as I thought the sweater was in the stores and online, I wasn’t moved to buy one.  In the end, it just wasn’t for me.  This fall I’ve seen an influx of critter sweaters at various retailers with a wide range of animals and price points.  Whether it’s a fox, a cat, a dog or even an owl, there is a sweater out there with your favorite critter on it. For this week’s Fresh Picks to Follow, check out my top 10 critter sweaters with a touch of whimsy. Have you indulged in this trend yet?  If so, what critter are you wearing? Let me know in the comments.

Moody Style: Spotted

I’m so glad that the weather here in Florida has gotten a little bit cooler because I finally get to layer up for a few days.  For today’s look, I copied some of my favorite blogger’s look by adding a chambray shirt underneath my favorite sweater.  I was lucky to grab this little polka dot sweater from Old Navy a couple months ago, but the store is completely sold out right now. I’m just bummed that I didn’t grab this in any other color. I know that there are tons of bloggers and readers out there that have this sweater because it was such a great deal and it’s super cute.  But if you missed out on this one, here are similar styles from some of my favorite retail stores: here, here, here and here.  Did any of you get a chance to buy this sweater or something similar? How do plan to style it?  Let me know in the comments.

Moody Style: Twisting Out A New Look

So I decided to experiment with my hair this past week and I took the plunge to wear my hair natural. I’ve wanted to do this for a long time, but I was really nervous about what my hair would look like.  I was also worried about styling limitations due to the length of my hair.  I watched a ton of YouTube videos and checked out a ton of blogs and found a style that fit me perfectly.  I wore this twist out style for a week and really I loved it.  I felt confident, free and a little sassy.  However, while I loved my new do, I realized that it’s not the best style for me right now.  As I’ve mentioned on my blog before, my job requires me to travel quite a bit and at this point I need a style that is quick and easy for my lifestyle.  This week, I decided to go back to my braids again because frankly it’s easier to manage and style.  I’m pretty sure that I’ll eventually come back to this look sooner rather than later, but I have to do some more research on alternate hair styles before I can fully commit.  Have any of you experimented with your hair? Whether it be a new color, a cut or a new style that you weren’t real sure about?  Did you change it right away or did you continue to rock it and just deal with it?  Let me know in the comments.

miscellany monday

happy monday everyone! i hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend.  i’ve added my random ramblings to carissa’s miscellany monday party!  check out carissa’s blog here and join in on the fun.

{one} race recap. i ran in a local half marathon on thanksgiving day and i had a blast. my plan was to finish the race under 2 hours and 30 minutes because i really didn’t train for this one.  my plan was to use this race as a training race for another half marathon that’s scheduled for december.  anyways, here’s my recap - there were 2081 total race finishers and 1046 female finishers.  my official chip time was 2:07:07 and my gun time was 2:08:19 and my split time for a 10k was 58:00.

{two} nwm half dc. i just signed up for the nike women’s half marathon that scheduled for april 28, 2013 in washington, dc.  the registration for this race is done by a random draw and it’s open until december 6, 2012.  each finisher of the nwm half dc will receive an official finisher's necklace designed by tiffany & co. this race is raising money for a great cause - the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  i really hope that i get picked for this race.  it looks like it will be pretty fun.

{three} black friday and cyber monday. did any of you brave the crowds on thursday evening for some early black friday specials or did you go out early friday morning?  i only went out to macy’s and target a little after midnight.  macy’s was a little too crowded to really start shopping and i found a bunch of great gifts for my nieces and nephew at target.  there were some pretty amazing deals for cyber monday.  i only bought a few things today, but i was able to get some holiday shopping out of the way.  did any of you buy anything today for cyber monday?

Fresh Picks to Follow – Paisley Print

Another classic look that has trickled over from spring and summer 2012 is the beautiful kidney-shaped paisley print.  Although this pattern is named after the town of Paisley, Scotland, the paisley pattern is of Iranian origin.  It’s a favorite pattern used regularly in Persian shawls and scarves.  The paisley print was really popular in the sixties and seventies and it’s back again in new groovy designs.  For this week’s Fresh Picks to Follow, check out my top 10 ways to wear paisley prints this fall. Do any of you have any clothing with paisley prints? Let me know in the comments.
